Meet the 2012 USF Women's Soccer Team

Soccer is back in the air and the ladies are looking to rebound after a somewhat disappointing 2011 season.  The team lost Chelsea Klotz on the front line and Nicole McClure in the net, both major losses from the 2011 squad, but the team returns a strong corps and a young freshmen class that will turn heads this season. Let's take a look at the returning group and the incoming freshmen class and what we can expect from each player.

Daniela Andrade - 5-5 - Sophomore - Midfielder/Forward - Guatemala City, Guatemala (The Pendleton School)

Andrade appeared in 2 games last season and took 2 shots. She has a lot of international experience especially with the Guatemalan National team and has been labeled a very "creative" player on offense, so the team should expect her to break some ankles this season and help lead attacks on the goal.

Kayla Bala - 5-6 - Senior - Midfielder - Lakeland, FL (George Jenkins HS) (UF Transfer)

After transferring from UF, Bala appeared in 10 games in her 1st season as a Bull, scoring 1 goal (5 shots, 3 on goal) and added 1 assist as a reserve (seemed to deal with an injury late in the season that limited her playing time).  Bala is a highly regarded striker that should make more of an impact this season for the Bulls.  When healthy, she can help lead the offense and help take pressure off the defense.

Ellycia Colon - 5-7 - Senior - Defender - Palm Harbor, FL (Palm Harbor University HS)

Colon did not play in a game last season as she recovered from a torn ACL in 2010.  The Bulls are hoping she can be 100% healthy this season to help provide depth on the defensive line as the team looks to rebound from 2011 (also breaking in a new fulltime goalkeeper as well).

Alexandra "Boo" Eagle - 5-7 - Senior - Defender/Midfielder - Freehold, NJ (Freehold Borough HS)

Eagle played in 18 games last season, taking one shot on goal for the Bulls.  She played primarily as a reserve and anchored the backline for most of the time on the field.  In 2010, she appeared in 23 games for the team as well.  This season, with a new goalie and a young team, look for Eagle to get even more playing time on the field where she can use her experience to help lead the defense and even help set up the offense when needed.

Taylor Patterson - 5-7 - Senior - Midfielder - Edmonton, Alberta (Archbishop O'Leary HS)

Patterson is one of the more experienced players for the Bulls and had a solid season in 2011 on offense.  She appeared in 15 games, scoring 3 goals (31 shots, 17 shots on goal) and added 1 assist on the year.  In 2010, she scored 6 goals, 3 of which were game winners.  She has a lot of experience and is very aggressive on offense, so the Bulls will look to her to amp up the attack on offense and will have another strong season.

Kelly Campbell - 5-8 - Senior - Defender - Largo, FL (Clearwater Central Catholic HS)

Campbell appeared in 18 games last season for the Bulls, scoring 1 goal (3 shots on goal) and added 1 assists while anchoring the defensive line that had 4 shut out wins.  Like with the other defenders on the Bulls roster, she will have to lead the way to help the new goalie in the net and keep games close for the offense to strike late.

Hannah M. Jasurda - 5-10 - Sophomore - Goalkeeper - Weston, Wisconsin (DC Everest HS)

Jasurda appeared in 1 game last season in the blow out win over Alabama A&M for 23 minutes and did not face any shots against her.  In high school, she was the team MVP in 2009 and 2010 and was a team captain, show her skill level and her leadership abilities.  She will battle for the starting job at goalkeeper, but if Ikeda wins the job, expect her to see a lot of playing time and help anchor the defense.

Marsha Harper - 5-9 - RS Senior - Forward/Defender - Denver, Colorado

Harper appeared in 13 games last season, totaling 1 goal and 1 assists on the year while taking 9 shots, 4 shots on goal. Harper suffered a knee injury 3 years ago, but since then, she has become a very reliable player for the Bulls off the bench and will continue to be a factor in her final season.

Alex Hosey - 5-9 - Sophomore - Forward - (Spruce Creek HS)

Hosey redshirted last season and was the first commitment for the class of 2011.  She is one of the highest coveted recruits by Coach Schlitte-Brown over the past few seasons and for good reason.  She was named Volusia County Player of the Year back in 2008 after she set a school record with 35 goals.  She was also part of the US National Team Pool at the age of 13, showing her talents.  Look for Hosey to really step into her role this year as a front line striker and should have a strong campaign in 2012.

Summer Ikeda - 5-5 - Senior - Goalkeeper - Rancho Cordova, CA (American River College)

Ikeda appeared in 3 games for the bulls last season (124 minutes total) making 14 saves (93% stopping percentage) as the back-up to McClure.  Ikeda was named JUCO All American before coming to USF and has a lot of upside.  She will most likely be the new goalkeeper for the Bulls in 2012 and has Coach Schlitte-Brown excited about the amount of skill she brings to the field, so look for her to have a solid first season in the net fulltime for the Bulls.

Catherine Leibbrandt - 5-7 - SR - Forward - North Port, FL (IMG Academy/Bayshore HS)

Leibbrandt played in only one game last season after playing in 7 games in 2010 and made 2 starts that year.  She has played primarily as a reserve her entire career and will be a key returner for the Bulls this season.  She could get the chance to make a few starts but will be a reserve off the bench.

Sarah Miller - 5-5 - SO - Midfielder/Forward - Bradenton, FL (Lakewood Ranch HS)

Miller appeared in 14 games for the Bulls during her freshman season, recording 1 goal and 1 assists on 7 shots (3 shots on goal).  Miller is a very versatile player that made an instant impact out of high school where she scored 96 goals and added 65 assists during her prep career.  She can play by F and MF, making her a very versatile player to either set the offense or lead the attack.  Look for Miller to continue to progress on offense and become a bigger threat on the attack.

Sharla Passariello - 5-5 - Forward - Junior - Abergavenny, Wales (Filton College)

Passariello became a go-to scorer for the Bulls in 2011, playing in 14 games, she totaled 3 goals on 34 shots, 11 shots on goal.  The Bulls will need to her to raise her scoring attack with the departure of Chelsea Klotz from last year's squad and Passariello has the ability to do so.  Her experience with the Welsh U-17 (at age 14) and other various international squads gives her a wealth of experience that will translate to the field and into more wins for the Bulls. Look for her to have another solid season on the attack for the Bulls and should increase her goal total in 2012.

Cara Patterson - 5-8 - Midfielder/Forward - Sophomore - Edmonton, Alberta (Archbishop O'Leary HS)

Patterson appeared in 7 games during her freshman campaign scoring 1 goal on 2 shots and recorded 1 assists.  Patterson, like Miller, is another young player that got on the field early during their playing career and can move to the middle to the edge of the field.  Look for Patterson to play a bigger role this season,
Demi Stokes - 5-4 - Forward - Junior - South Shields, England (Gateshead College)

Stokes played in every game for the Bulls last season and emerged as one of the top offensive strikers.  She netted 4 goals and added 4 assists on 56 shots (32 shots on goal).  With Klotz gone, the Bulls will need Stokes to continue her progression on offense and will look to carry the load on offense this season. While she can set up teammates, look for her to remain aggressive and take even more shots on goal in 2012.

Lauriell Young - 5-9 - Sophomore - Forward/Defender - Vero Beach, FL (Vero Beach HS)

Young appeared in 1 game last season off the bench and should see more action this year due to her versatility on the field.  She can play on the front line and help the attack or can move back and help on defense.  The Bulls will have a new goal keeper this season, so having a player like her gives Schlitte-Brown more depth and options off the bench.

Here are the incoming freshmen that will be expected to make an impact this season.

Erica Burt - Defender - Freshman

Burt was a team captain for her high school squad out of Ponte Verda the last two seasons, so she brings great leadership qualities to the field.  At 6-foot tall, she is a very big and physical defender that will be able to transition to the Big East very quickly for the Bulls.  Look for her to make an impact this season mostly as a reserve, but should see increased playing time on the backline for the Bulls.

Olivia Chance - Left wing - Defender - Freshman

Chance has a lot of international experience, playing for the New Zealand U-17 and U-20 teams.  She is a very active player that can cover a lot of ground and will bring that athletic ability and experience to the field for the Bulls.  Chance will probably be a reserve role for the Bulls this season, but she will get plenty of playing time and should help the backline that is looking to reload and help support the new goalkeeper in 2012.

Jessica Clark - Defender/Midfielder - Freshman

Clark joins the Bulls after an impressive career at Felix Varela Senior High School down in Miami.  In her senior season, she scored a record 43 goals for her team, showing her attacking style when attacking the opponent.  She has a strong defensive mind and gets back on defense as well, making her an ideal player and a prime candidate to see playing time early and often for the Bulls.  Clark will probably be a key reserve for the Bulls, but she will get a few shots on goal this season.

Sydney Drinkwater - Goalkeeper - Freshman

The Bulls needed to add a few star studded goalkeepers in their 2012 class and Drinkwater could be the future for the team in the net.  Coming out of Merritt Island High School, she helped lead her team to the state title in 2011 and has been considered one of the top talents in the state.  She is a huge addition for the Bulls and will be battling for minutes in the net this year.  The goalkeeper position is wide open (battling Ikeda) so look for her to be active in competition and should see the field this season.
Christiane Endler - Goalkeeper - Freshman
Another talent goalkeeper for the Bulls’ 2012 recruiting class, Endler brings a strong history of playing experience in international play, working with the U-20 Chilean national team.  While she does not have the same hype as Drinkwater for this recruiting class, she is a talented player that has a high soccer IQ and great fundamentals.  Endler is an under the radar type player that not many are expecting to get the starting gig, but with her experience, she cannot be left out of the debate for the starting goalie position.  Look for her to battle for the starting job.
Soraya “YaYa” Martinez - Midfielder - Freshman
Martinez, rated the 88th best prospect by TopDrawerSoccer.com comes to the Bulls after an excellent prep career at Freedom High School in Orlando, FL. She is a very skilled player that has tremendous footwork, allowing her to break down opponents and continue on the attack.  While she may not begin the season as a starter, she could develop into a premier striker for the Bulls with time and should get plenty of shots on goal this season.
Paola Lopez - Right wing/Forward - Freshman
Lopez joins the Bulls with a wealth of international experience playing for the U-17 team back in 2010, the same team that faced USF in a friendly match. During that match, Lopez scored the lone goal against the Bulls for her team. She is a very smart player, technical with her footwork, but will need to build up her strength for the brutal Big East schedule.  She will be primarily a reserve player this season, but with time should be able to get the conditioning down and make an impact on the field.
Bianca Norman - Forward - Sophomore
Norman joins the Bulls after playing for Tyler Junior College last season, the same junior college that star striker Dom Dwyer played for.  Norman is a pure speedster on the field.  She participated on the 100 meter track team back in high school and continues to use her elite speed to attack and help get back on defense.  She will probably be a reserve player this season, but with her speed, the Bulls might try to get her out on the field to help lead an attack and also to recover on the defensive side.
Monica Resto - Midfielder - Freshman
Resto, out of St. John's, Florida, is a well rounded player that is a constant student of the game, forever working to perfect her craft (coaches dream).  She is a very consistent player, always working hard on the attack and can get back on defense.  She will probably be a reserve player this season, but her dedication and work ethic will get her on the field.
Jackie Simpson - Midfielder/Defender - Freshman
Simpson is a very experienced player that can play back on defensive or can work in the center.  She was a 4-year letter winner in high school and competed on the U-17 team FC Brandon, largely considered one of the top clubs in the state of Florida.  Coach Schilte-Brown sees her competing early and often this season for the Bulls, adding a strong athletic player to the field that can help in the center and give the Bulls valuable minutes.
Taylor Tippett - Defender - Freshman
One of the best defenders in the stats coming out of Carrollwood Day School, Tipped (former track and cross country star) brings an aggressive style of defensive to the field and should be an impact player for the Bulls.  She was a 3-year captain and even showed her skills on offense once scoring 7 goals in a game.  She is going to be a key addition to the Bulls, whether she starts or rotates in.  Her leadership and skill set will help the Bulls now and into the future.
