2011 stats: Veron did not appear in any games last season. He redshirted in 2010.
Position on the depth chart: Veron missed most of the spring with his kicking foot in a protective boot due to an injury occurred while in his dorm (Holtz stated it was horseplaying in the door, kids will be kids).
2012 projection: Veron was ranked as the 67th best kicker according to ESPN in 2010, leading to expectation that he would be the next punter for the Bulls, however the injury this spring has led to Ciabatti taking the job out the gate. Veron will have to come into the fall at full health and put on a show to win the job away from Ciabatti and beat out JBK on the depth chart.
How could he not beat out JBK on the depth chart? Last season JBK put on the worst punting display I have ever seen in over 35 years of watching the game of football at the pro, college and high school levels. If Veron could not overtake JBK, then something is seriously wrong.
ReplyDeleteMissing the spring did not help him winning the job, but Mattias Ciabatti is the guy to beat in the fall, Holtz has made that clear. It would take a huge camp from either Veron or JBK to knock Ciabatti out of the way. I understand, it was rough, but Ciabatti should win the job and help the unit out.
