Football is still weeks away and as we wait for the games to begin, two Bulls have been named to national award watch lists.
Maikon Bonani, the senior kicker, was named to the Lou Groza award watch list. Bonani, the career leader in field goals at USF, went 19 of 26 in field goal attempts and was named 1st team pre-season All Big East team for the second consecutive season. Bonani is one of the most accurate kickers in program history and earning this honor is a great credit to his skill set.
Today, the Outland Trophy award for best offensive tackle came out and senior left tackle Mark Popek was added to the list. Popek, a former All Big East freshman team member and pre-season 1st team All Big East from Phil Steele, is a huge tackle that started all 12 games last season for the Bulls and protects the blind side for B.J. Daniels. Popek is one of the best tackles in the conference so it is only fitting he is added to the list.
Congratulations to both players, we hope to see both of them make the cut later this season and hopefully bring home some hardware along with a big winning season.
