Meet the UTC Coaching Staff

Coach Russ Huesman leads the Mocs, find out who is calling the shots on his coaching staff.
The Bulls take on UT Chattanooga and it is always important to see who will be leading the opponent on the other side of the field. Let's take a look at the UTC coaching staff and get a better idea of who they are.

Head Coach Russ Huesman - Huesman is entering his 4th season as the Head Coach of the Mocs (his alma mater, former defensive back).  Huesman was hired in 2008 as the 22nd head coach in program history and has turned the Moc program around, leading them to back-to-back winning seasons in his first two seasons at the helm (17-16 overall as the HC).

Before being named the HC at UTC, Huesman was the defensive coordinator for the University of Richmond from 2004 to 2008, leading one of the best defensive units in FCS.  It was nicknamed the "stonewall defense" due to its ability to absolutely stop the run against anyone.  Before that, he was the offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Memphis from 1998 to 2003.

Huesman has really turned the UTC program around.  Before he arrived, the Mocs were not one of the top FCS programs (averaged 150 yards a game of total offense the year prior to him arriving) and really struggled in all phases of the game.  Since taking over, the team has had two winning seasons, has had several players named to the All Southern Conference team.  While bringing life back to the program, he has also done a great job in bringing the community and alumni back to support the program as well.

Offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield - Satterfield is entering his 4th season as the offensive coordinator.  He runs a multiple set offense, moving players in the backfield, running pro-style formations to the spread offense, giving the offense more flexibility and making it harder for opponents to handle (balanced in run and passing).  Prior to Satterfield taking over, the Mocs were averaging just around 150 total yards of offense a game and had just one 13 points game (yuck).

Before taking over, he was the offensive coordinator for 3 seasons at UT Martin.  He has previously worked with Coach Huesman while they were both at the University of Richmond.  Satterfield is also a former wide receiver and punter.

Defensive coordinator Adam Fuller - Coach Fuller is also entering his 4th season as the defensive coordinator of the Mocs.  He runs the base 4-3 defensive scheme and puts a lot of emphasis on the defensive line.  His units has consistently been ranked among the best in FCS in quarterback sacks over the past 3 years.

Prior to taking over at UTC, he was the head coach for one season at Assumption College.  Prior to that, he worked with Huesman at Richmond as the special teams and cornerbacks coach.

The coaching staff has a lot of history together and has put together a balanced program that has taken the Mocs to a higher level than seen in the past.  With the top coordinators having so much familiarity with each other, they are able to gameplan and manage situations a lot better than other staffs.
