Coach Ault is a legend and will be tough to beat. |
Head Coach Chris Ault - Ault is Nevada football. The longtime coach is in the middle of his third stint as the head coach of the Wolfpack (was HC from 76 to 92, 94 to 95, and returned starting in 2004) and is the all time winningest coach, with over 200 wins in his career and a place in the college hall of fame (not many can say that). The former Nevada quarterback has led his alma mater to 7 straight bowl games and had his team ranked as high as 11th back in 2010. Last season, Nevada went 7-6, losing their bowl game to Southern Miss. He is very successful and has created one of the most unique offenses in college football.
The pistol offense, the brain child of Coach Ault, is still being used by the Wolfpack and has become one of the most effective rushing attacks in college history. It allows the quarterback to be away from the center, but not as far back as the shotgun formation. This allows him to make quick reads, hand offs, pitches during options runs, and passes from the pocket, making opposing defenses who have to cover the schemes tired before they even take the field.
Facing a coach like Ault, a unique offense, and a road trip that has a two hour time difference will make it interesting and Ault won't make life easy for the Bulls.
Mike Bradeson - Defensive Coordinator/Safeties Coach
Bradeson is entering his 9th season with the Wolfpack, but his 1st season as the full time defensive coordinator (was promoted) after coaching the secondary last season. Bradeson, who is in his second stint with Nevada after spending time with Cal and UNLV (was their defensive coordinator while there), will look to shape up the Wolfpack defense that at times gave up a lot of yards, especially on the ground. Bradson has a background with secondaries after playing defensive back with Boise during his college days, so expect that unit to be well coached as well. He has a lot of senior leaders on the team, so the Wolfpack defense should be strong this season. Coach Ault will also be calling plays on defense, more so than in the past, so the defense will have a lot of great minds leading it this season.
Nick Rolovich - Offensive coordinator - 1st year
Rolovich joins the Nevada Wolfpack staff after spending the last four seasons in Hawaii, the last two of which he was the Warriors' offensive coordinator. During those years, Hawaii ranked among the best in the nation in passing yardage and brings an extensive knowledge of the spread offense and a quick but deadly passing game. It has been stated that head coach Chris Ault, architect of the pistol offense, will be handing more play calling duties to Rolovich this season as he spends more time with the defensive coordinator. With the experience of the passing game that Rolovich has and the pistol offense that has been engrained into the Nevada players, it will be interesting to see how the offense that has been heavy on the run for years, adds in the quick passing game. If they are able to get on the same page and adopt some of Rolovich's ideas, the Wolfpack offense will be tough to slow down.
It's 2 words! Wolf Pack!
