What's Left to Play for?

There are still plenty of reasons to watch this team (Picture: www.tbo.com)
The football season is not going according to plans and in the midst of a 4-game losing streak, many are preparing for basketball season and hoping something is done at the end of the year.  Yet despite the rough go the team has had the last few weeks, there are still games left to be played and still things to watch the rest of the way.  Here are the five biggest things to watch down the stretch.

Young Freshmen - The Bulls have 24 seniors on the roster, meaning that next season, the team will be very young.  True freshmen such as Chris Bivins, Sean Price, D'vario Montgomery, James Hamilton, Tashon Whitehurst and others have gotten a few limited chances to get on the field.  As the season wears on, these young men, the future of the program have a chance to get on the field and start earning experience.  We need to cheer them on, watch their development because they are going to be the next generation of stars for this program and we cannot afford to just abandon them.

For Next Season - As mentioned above, the team will have a new look entering next season and the young players, from the freshman to sophomores and up have to start getting out there and preparing for next season.  While the year is not over, we need to see players develop and show something out there.  Seeing the younger players and the players that will be starters next season get on the field will give us encouragement that the future will hold some hope.

Senior Class - The 24 seniors have sacrificed a lot of time, energy, and effort out there.  They have seen a coaching change, been in the highs of winning a bowl game and now into the lows that we see today.  This group has not accomplished the goal they set out to complete this season, but they are still a veteran group that has given everything they have for us and as fans, we need to support that.  On senior night, when Landi and others walk across the field for the final time, we need to cheer them on and thank them for their hard work.

Pride - Losses to Temple and Ball State hurt, for fans, it angers us, but what about the players?  This group wanted to get the Big East title and now they are in the basement looking up.  While the title hopes are all but gone (mathematically of course) but there are still games to be played.  This team will not just lay down and let the other conference teams walk all over them.  The Bulls will continue to fight and that is at least acknowledged their effort out there.

B.J. Daniels - Daniels, as long as he remains healthy throughout the year, has a chance to leave his mark in the record books as being the top yardage gainer in league history.  Former USF QB Matt Grothe has the title and behind him is Pat White.  If Daniels continues to rack up the yards both through the yard and with his legs, he can take the title this season and leave his mark on the program and in the conference.

  1. Hit the nail right on the head. As bad as things are and as it's going to get worse, now that the team has nothing left to lose and there's no more pressure or expectations they can just focus on finding a way back to playing solid football. That means executing plays well, putting together productive drives, committing to a style, getting play calling right, making the most of possessions, and hopefully that will lead to having the confidence to show up back up their talent, practice, and training to win some games. The goal right now is just win a game, one game, then maybe they'll have a chance to get back to .500 ball as early as next season or optimistically sooner.
