Aycock Ready to Go

Former Auburn running back Donate Aycock is ready to start his career at USF.

The Bulls enter the 2011 season with a new weapon in the backfield, Dontae Aycock. The running back from Auburn transferred last season and had to sit out the season due to NCAA guidelines and has undergone knee surgery as well. But heading into the Spring, Aycock is healthy, eligible, and could have a big season for the Bulls. [keep reading]

Aycock, 5'8" 219-pounds, originally played his high school football right here in the Bay area at Chamberlain High School. The former 4-star recruit went to Auburn, but after not getting the playing time he desired and the interest of playing closer to home, Aycock returned to Tampa and the Bulls.

Aycock is a change of pace running back compared to Darrell Scott, the other running back that transferred to USF (out of Colorado). Aycock is a fast, shifty runner, running the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds. He has incredible change of direction and a great burst to help him out run any defender on the field. He is not a power running back like Scott could be (and Mike Ford was) but he can fight for yards, but is better if he is able to hit the gap fast or break the ball to the outside.

Entering the Spring practices, the Bulls will be retooling at running back. Mo Plancher has graduated, which leaves junior Demetris Murray, freshman Marcus Shaw, and freshman Bradley Battles, among others who saw playing time last season. Along with Scott, Aycock will be an instant weapon in the backfield and could be a big time weapon to unleash in the Big East this season.

  1. when I saw the above picture, I thought Dantae's knee is certainly bent at an odd angle. No wonder he needed knee surgery. Then I saw his left knee was behind the tackler.

  2. Yeah that is a white guy trying to tackle him. He is healthy, but probably limited to start Spring. He could have a monster season for USF.
