Long Road Traveled

Kevin Gidrey played only one season for the Bulls after transferring from ECU.
Coach Skip Holtz took over the Bulls in 2010 after great success at ECU. But he wasn't alone when he made the trip to Tampa. Tight end Kevin Gidrey decided to follow his coach and continue his education at USF and also his playing career. [keep reading]

Gidrey, the 6'2" 256-pound tight end has a great career and enjoyed incredible success in his time at ECU. Gidrey was part of the two time Conference-USA championship teams that Coach Holtz led before coming to USF. He played in 40 games for the Pirates and started in 20 games, contributing on special teams as well. But after his 4 seasons with the Pirates, he decided he wanted to pursue his graduate degree and continue his football success in Tampa.

Gidrey entered a difficult situation in Tampa. He joined a team that was learning a new offense and entering a position, tight end, that had not been a target for the Bulls offense for years. Gidrey he his best to lead the team both on and off the field, giving advice to the young team and dealing with quarterback issues on the field. Gidrey finished the season with 5 receptions and 61 yards, but was a key contributor blocking for the running game that was the strength of the USF offense. In the bowl victory over Clemson, Gidrey had 3 receptions for 34 yards as the offense seemed to get its act together.

Gidrey is a big tight end, possessing great hands and excellent route running ability. He does not have wide receiver speed, but he is able to battle and create mismatches on the field, giving his quarterback a solid target to throw to. He is a solid blocker and shown he can play on special teams as well.

Gidrey had a solid season for USF and will now enter the NFL Draft as he continues his football career. Despite his limited time at USF, Gidrey made a great impact as the team continues to change and look forward to the bright future ahead.

  1. He is working hard this summer and could be a late round pick or a free agent signing. He will make his way onto an NFL roster.

  4. APPARENTLY, If it werent for the many key blocks made, your QB would have been crushed more often. Got film? Go notice!

  5. Gidrey was a solid blocker, kept Bowers off of Daniels during the bowl game and had key catches during the game, he has potential.
