B.J. Daniels Puts It Together

B.J. Daniels had a tough season, being criticized all year long for his bad play and poor decision making. Coming into a new offensive system, new coaches, and missing players, Daniels did not have it very easy and being hurt on top of it made it even worse. But something clicked for him in Charlotte as he led the Bulls to the bowl win. He seemed to finally put it all together and is heading into the Spring as the leader once more.[keep reading]

Daniels played like many thought he would all season. He completed 20 of 27 passes for 189 yards, including 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. He threw the ball with accuracy and poise, moving the offense down the field against a very talented Clemson defense. For once, Daniels seemed comfortable in Todd Fitch's offense, understanding the play calling and making the right reads. He also did not scramble as much, but moved around the pocket when needed, carrying 11 times for 22 yards and 1 touchdown.

Daniels was healthy in this game. The time off allowed his legs to heal and his mind as well. He took a verbal beating from many and the time off probably allowed him to refocus, get more practice in, and finally have fun on the field after a long season. Daniels was smiling, making jokes, just like he did in 2009 when he burst onto the scene for the Bulls with Grothe went down.

Heading into 2011, Daniels is the starter, there is really no question about it. Others will push him, Eveld, Gunsby, and incoming Matt Floyd, but after this performance, Daniels is the starter to beat. Let's all hope he can build off of this bowl win and continue the progression into next season.
