JAWANZA!!

The USF basketball season for the men's team is beginning to turn South. 7 straight losses have the team at the bottom of the conference despite playing close and hard in all of their games. One of the newcomers to the 2011 squad however continues to have a solid, highlight reel season thus far, Jawanza Poland.

Poland, a junior college transfer from Hutchinson Community College (Kansas City) has become a spark plug on the court for the Bulls. The 6'4" 200-pound guard is averaging 10.2 points per game and 1.7 assists per game (shooting 22% from 3-point range though).

Poland is a high flying scorer, able to shoot from range or drive to the hoop (hopefully everyone has seen his dunk from the Cincinnati game). He has started and come off the bench this season for Coach Heath, giving the Bulls much needed offense and providing an up-tempo style of play. Poland is a very aggressive player at both ends of the court, which can lead to foul problems. He needs to play more under control, but his fast style and aggressive style of play is something the Bulls need.

Jawanza still has 2-years left of eligibility after this season, giving Heath a great scorer he can coach up and help lead the team in the near future. Poland has already become a fan favorite (and a bloggers best friend, JAWANZA!!). He will continue to help the Bulls and shine this season despite the recent losses and tough schedule ahead. Poland looks to get his game going today as the Bulls take on Providence at noon in the Sun Dome.
