Eveld Gets Scholarship

From Greg Auman - Walk-on freshman quarterback Bobby Eveld got an unexpected surprise tonight as he was given a scholarship by Coach Skip Holtz.

The 6'5" 200-pound quarterback out of Jesuit High School led the Bulls to the victory over Miami and got one start against UCONN when BJ Daniels was injured.

This is a great gesture by Holtz, acknowledging that Eveld is a legit quarterback and could be in the running for the starting job next season. With Weatherford no longer committed to USF, it gave Holtz an available scholarship and he decided it was best to give it to Eveld.

I'm glad Eveld got a scholarship. The former catching prospect was originally headed to the MLB, but decided instead to go to college, but it was too late in the recruiting process to get a scholarship offer, so he walked-on to USF and the Bulls benefited from his decision. Eveld is a good quarterback, strong arm, and seems to be able to get the offense moving when given time. He will push to be the starter in what should be in open competition or at least a few more eyes will be on him come Spring.
