Representing Home

The USF secondary is loaded with talent, but one player in particular comes from the same town where I grew up, Deland, Florida. When I heard that safety Mark Joyce was committed to USF, a part of home was coming to Tampa. Trust me, Deland is not that big of a town, so when someone from there is recruited, it is big news. Joyce made big news in 2010 and looks to do even more heading into 2011.[keep reading]

Joyce, 5'10" 191-pounds, is a very fast, hard hitting safety that adds depth both to the USF secondary and special teams. Joyce, the former 3-star recruit (57th best safety in the nation), finished the 2010 season with 10 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 forced fumble, and 1 interception in the opening win for a touchdown.

Joyce is a very fast player, running track for Deland High School (posted 4.5 in the 40-yard dash). He helped the Bulldogs get to the state championship and anchored a talented secondary that punished opponents. Joyce had several offers, to play college ball but decided to stay closer to home and head to Tampa.

There is a lot of depth in the USF secondary entering the 2011 season. Joyce will play a back-up role once again this season, but will get plenty of snaps of play and will contribute in special teams. He is a great young playmaker that could become a legend for USF in the next few seasons. Can't wait to see him in the secondary, intercepting passes and representing DeLand all the way.
