Who is the Go-To-Receiver?

If A.J. Love is healthy this season, he could have a huge year. (Picture credits: www.gousfbulls.com)
Two big time receivers are returning this season for the Bulls after missing the 2010 season due to injury, Sterling Griffin and A.J. Love. Both are great receivers, possessing both speed and great hands, but if you are the quarterback and have to throw to one receiver, who is the go-to man? Let's take a look at both receivers and see which one should be the number one threat in 2011.[keep reading]

A.J. Love was granted a 5th year of eligibility after tearing an ACL ligament in the Spring game to start 2010. He is 6'2" 205-pounds and the most senior receiver the Bulls have. He has solid hands, good speed, and is very tough to take down after the catch. He does not have speed of Lindsey Lamar, but gets great separation with his body and football IQ. He has tons of experience that he brings on the field and should be one of the most reliable receivers in 2011 if he returns to full strength after his knee injury. He may not be able to cut as well on routes because of the injury, even if fully healed.

Sophomore Sterling Griffin (6'1" 180-pounds) is the other go-to option for USF heading into 2011. He is a very fast receiver that has great break-away speed and excellent hands. Griffin has gone into USF history after his 70-yard touchdown catch in the upset win over FSU in Tallahassee. He was poised for a breakout season but an ankle injury forced him to miss most of the season. He is not as physical as Love (doesn't have the same size), but is a bit faster and can break away from a defender in a footrace.

So who gets the edge in the best go-to receiver option for the Bulls? Most receivers are impressive and have tons of potential, but in a late game situation and throwing the ball up to a receiver, only one can come down with the ball and who do you trust to make that catch? I have to give the slight edge to A.J. Love on this one. It is a tough one to call and both are going to have huge seasons for the Bulls, but Love has the experience and is reliable. Griffin showed signs of brilliance, but only had one big season and with that as the only background to fall back to, I give Love the edge.

What do you think? Who do you want in crunch time to catch a pass for you? Do you go for the experienced A.J. Love or the speedy potential of Sterling Griffin? No answer is wrong, so leave your thoughts and let the debate begin!!
