Don't make Lou Holtz angry, you won't like him when he is angry. |
By now, everyone knows that tomorrow is a strange obsession for many football fans across the country. It is officially National Signing Day. It is a day that many fans sit at their computers or watch parties to see which high school football players (and other sports) fax their letters to their intended universities. USF is the same. Gousfbulls.com is going to be having a signing day party, continuous coverage, and much more to give the fans what they want. But as a fan, here are a few rules you need to live by during the last few hours before the signing deadline.[keep reading]
Calm down - This is a very important day, but remember these are 17-18 year old kids that are making huge decisions in their lives. Watching them all day is a bit strange and where they decide to go is their ultimate decision (they can change their mind whenever they like, it's called being human). So don't get angry when someone doesn't sign with USF or angry when someone you didn't want signed up, it is up to the coaches and who they offer, trust me, they are experts at this.
Don't harass the recruits - Social media makes it easy to hop on twitter and facebook to find a recruit and begin posting and commenting on the player, begging and asking them questions, but don't do it. These are kids, leave them alone. Sitting at home in your mom's basement posting endless questions, poking a person's page, it's terrible and could even make the recruit not want to go to a team because of the terrible actions of the fan. It is fine to welcome someone, ask them a question, but don't harass them, you could get yourself in trouble or even the university in trouble.
Signing day is just a day - Yes, it is a huge day for most schools and USF is counting on top recruits once again, but remember all of the rankings and guessing about a player don't mean anything when it comes to the field. George Selvie was a 2 star recruit that few went after, how is he doing now? Matt Grothe was a low level recruit and he became a star at USF. So don't go crazy over rankings and numbers on all of the ranking sites, have faith in the coaches and their evaluations (coach wouldn't recruit a player, give him a scholarship if he wasn't able to play, despite what other websites say).
I will have coverage tomorrow night, recapping the signings and have some special posts during the day in case something big happens (expected recruit signs, someone changes their mind, etc.). I work all day, so I won't be able to give you 24/7 coverage of the event, but go to www.gousfbulls.com they will have incredible coverage of everything, but keep everything calm tomorrow, it's just another day.
