Mitchell Progressing at Wide Receiver

The Bulls returned to practice yesterday and Holtz said they were a bit sloppy, but were working hard. One of the players that continues to turn heads in Terrence Mitchell. The All Big East return man is working with the offense at the wide receiver position and continues to get better every day. [keep reading]

The 5'10" 165-pound speedster is working on offense after making the full switch from corner to wide receiver. Last season, the Bulls began working Mitchell into the offense, using him on reverse runs, but never throwing him a pass. This Spring, the Bulls are throwing everything his way and so far, he is responding.

In an interview with BullsVision (part of gousfbulls.com and USF Athletics) Offensive coordinator Todd Fitch talked about how they want to get to the ball to Mitchell. He was quoted saying "at least 8 to 10 touches a game....he can stretch the field......we are working on getting him the ball on screens and open space where he can create."

Getting Mitchell the ball is key. With his ability to create and incredible speed, Mitchell and turn a simple bubble screen into a 70 yard touchdown run. Mitchell can stretch the field, but getting him the ball in space is a great offensive scheme to use.

Mitchell is still learning the position and working on the fundamentals, such as which routes to run in particular situations and how to adjust to the offense and tempo the unit runs with. Mitchell probably won't be one of the starting wide receivers, but the starters are teaching him and will help him get onto the field this season. Having a weapon like Mitchell is a going to help the offense. It gives Daniels another weapon that he can target downfield or simply dump the ball off to and let Mitchell create. I can't wait for football season to start and see what Mitchell can do on the field.
