More on Anthony Collins

Coach Heath landed another commitment to the class of 2012, point guard Anthony Collins. Collins (6' 175-pounds) out of Westbury Christian High School in Houston, Texas is the third commitment to Heath this year, but there is just one small problem, Heath doesn't have a scholarship to offer. [keep reading]

Collins is a talented athlete. He can move an offense well and has a nice mid-range game. He has the size and length you need on the floor and he will add some muscle once he gets to college. He needs to work on attacking the basket and becoming more aggressive on offense, something the Bulls lack altogether.

Heath already has two commits to the 2012 class and does not have a scholarship available. Jarrid Famous was the only senior graduating and no one else has left the program, at least yet.

There is a lot of talk that someone will be leaving the program. While this is all speculation at the moment, there is a high probability that someone could transfer out, such as LaVonte Dority or Mike Burwell (these are just names that come to my mind, nothing official on them). There is also the chance that Gilchrist does leave to the NBA and opens up a scholarship spot for the Bulls. While this won't happen for a bit (at least the information on his departure) that leaves Collins fate in the air.

So why would Heath try to recruit a player if he didn't have a spot available for him on the roster? Probably because Heath knows something we don't at this point. Heath might have knowledge that a player will be leaving the team and would open up a spot for Collins. It is also a need position for the Bulls and Heath is actively recruiting just in case someone leaves.

I hope Collins is able to join the program. The Bulls need some young talent at point guard and some new excitement as well. After Crater leaves, there is no point guard behind him that could take over. If Collins were able to join the program, he could learn from Heath and get use to the offense in his first season and then take over when Crater graduates. This is all speculation but hopefully something will happen soon.
