Gilchrist's Chances in the NBA

Will Gilchrist leave or come back to USF?
Gilchrist has put his name in the NBA draft, but what are the real chances he gets drafted by an NBA team or will he simply return to USF? [keep reading]

Gilchrist has the size the NBA would love. He is 6'10" 245-pounds, can play both forward and move to center (would be undersized at center in NBA). He has a great wing span and has great lateral movement. He doesn't have elite speed, but he is able to get back on defense and assists on fast-breaks easily.

On offense, Gilchrist has a nice level of ability. His post game is solid, but he has limited moves to the hoop. He is able to back down defenders and can move to the basket in traffic, but in the NBA, he won't be able to back too many forwards down. He has a nice mid-range game which allows him to open up the court by stepping back and hitting an 18-footer. He will try a 3-pointer once in awhile, but is under 25% from long range.

On defense, Gilchrist is a good defender. He is able to use his size to hold an opposing player down and the arm span to deflect and alter shots. He works hard in the paint and can battle bigger bodies for rebounds.

Gilchrist has some character issues. His recruitment was not normal and some questioned that. He left the team in the middle of the year, but came back the next day. Other than these incidents, Gilchrist has had a quiet and productive career at USF.

So which NBA team wants him? According to ESPN's Chris Brousard's Top 100 players, Gilchrist doesn't even break the list and many feel he is just not ready for the NBA.

Gilchrist didn't hire an agent either, which means he could come back to USF after the draft (in May) if he decides he doesn't want to enter the draft. Personally, I believe Gilchrist is doing this to simply see where he may potentially go in the draft or what would be his options if he left the program now. I think he will return to USF. He won't be drafted high enough and there is no guarantee he would make it onto an NBA roster.
