Mike Burwell won't return next season. |
As expected, sophomore guard Mike Burwell has announced he will not return to the basketball program next season (reported by Adam Adkins).
Burwell averaged just 6.9 minutes per game and 1.5 points per game over his two year career. This season he averaged 8.1 minutes per game and 1.7 points per game. He had 5 starts, including 1 start at point guard when Crater was injured early in the season.
The loss of Burwell is not a terrible thing for the program. Burwell saw his limited playing time nearly vanish at the end of the season. He never seemed to fit Heath's system and he was never able to contribute either.
With Burwell leaving and Shedrick Haynes already leaving, this frees up the new scholarships for the two new incoming guards, freshman Anthony Collins and JUCO-freshman Blake Nash.
Both of them will be able to sign on Wednesday. Nash and Collins seem to have much more upside, both in moving the offense and scoring as well. We wish Burwell best of luck as moves on to another program.
