USF Baseball Continues to Confuse Fans with Quality Win Over #18 Stetson

I still haven't figured out this USF Baseball team. A week ago, the Bulls traveled to Deland and got hammered by Stetson, 9-1. Tonight, many probably feared that it would be the same story, with traditional relief pitcher Zach Pietrzyk getting the start, only his second start of his career and his first in three years. Pietrzyk ended up pitching three innings, striking out two batters and allowing zero runs on two hits. The Bulls' offense played a big part as well, scoring in each of the first three innings.

Junior Carlin went 1-for-4, extending his hitting streak to 16 games, and also pitched one perfect inning. Sam Mende also went 1-for-4 with two RBI and as many strikeouts. Chad Taylor reached base twice, but had no RBI. The pitching was a group effort Kyle Parker and Andrew Loynaz combined for 4 innings pitched and allowed one earned run. Kyle Quackenbush came in to close the game out, but ran into a bit of trouble early. He allowed a leadoff double and walked the next batter. The damage turned out to be minimal, though, as Quack got out of the inning only allowing one run.

Without a doubt, this was a quality win for the Bulls, who will finally rest at a .500 record for more than 24 hours. They will get a few days off before staying at home for a three-game Big East series at Louisville, followed by a midweek game at Miami. USF currently sits at fifth in the conference, and has five more conference series left on the schedule.
