Bulls Fall to Notre Dame

Another night and another loss. The Bulls, battling for the Big East tournament lives at this point, lost a very important game to Notre Dame last night, falling 8 to 0.

Randy Fontanez went just 2 innings, giving up 2 hits and 2 runs (took the loss as well, he is now 5-5 on the season). Fontanez left the game due to illness and the Irish took advantage. Zach Piertzyk pitched well in relief, going 5.1 innings, giving up 3 hits, 4 runs, walking 1, and striking out a career high 5. But the ND offense did just enough to get a comfortable lead and the USF offense decided to take the night off again.

Jonathan Koscso led the way going 2 for 3, but no one else had more than two hits. Carlin, Rockhold, Mende, Mendez, and Falla each had a hit, but no one moved runners over and a big 0 on the scoreboard explains the rest.

The Bulls are now 22-26 (11-11) on the season and are now facing the cold reality of missing the Big East tournament in Clearwater this season. The Bulls are now in 7th place while Notre Dame has tied Seton Hall for the 8th and final spot to Clearwater and they want to book their tickets and will be looking to beat up USF for a free trip. The Bulls have to do something on offense. The pitching has been decent and has kept them alive, but the lack of offense, from power to simply moving runners and manufacturing runs is not there. This team looks real bad right now and they could be in for another loss starting at 2:05 today when they step onto the field again.
