Coach Skip Holtz is excited the team is heading back to Vero Beach this August (Picture:www.gousfbulls.com) |
From Greg Auman - Skip Holtz announced last night that the football team will be heading back to Vero Beach this August as part of the Fall football camp.
When classes end on August 5th, the Bulls will pack up shop and head to Vero Beach for 11 days to practice and prepare for the highly anticipated 2011 season.
USF is estimating that the cost to feed everyone will be around $100,000, not too bad for 105 hungry football players and staff.
The move to Vero Beach is a great one. Entering the 2010 season amidst the coaching change, the Bulls team had many distractions around them. Holtz decided to move the practices to Vero Beach to get away from all of the distractions, from video games to campus life, and focus on the team and football. The team returned closer than ever. Defensive players roomed with offensive players, something Leavitt never did and the team grew closer, they became a "team."
This season, Holtz is doing it again and the team, administration, and fans alike are in full support of the move despite the new facilities USF has. This trip to Vero is more than facilities, it is to build the relationships in the team and bring all of the players and coaches closer together to help them prepare for the football season.

I think I'm about as excited about this as the players are
ReplyDeleteI agree, I love the move. Get away from distractions, grow as a full team, only good will come from this move.
ReplyDeleteThose three close wins we had last season could have easily been close losses. Moves like this are what help to make teams bowl eligible and Big East contenders.
ReplyDelete100% right. The team was able to rally in close games and support and trust each other. Those close games are the kind of games we use to lose and now with a more talented team, it should be a huge season for the Bulls.
