Freshman quarterback Jamius Gunsby is leaving USF (Picture:www.tcpalm.com) |
According to Chad Simmons via Twitter this morning (of FoxSports/Scout.com), freshman quarterback, Jamius Gunsby, is leaving the team and transferring to Georgia Military College.
The 6'3" 245-pound quarterback out of LaGrange, Georgia, left the team this Spring after talking to Coach Holtz so he could focus on academics. Gunsby felt he needed to focus his efforts on classes and missed Spring practices. Click here for the original article on Gunsby leaving the team for Spring. It appears that Gunsby will transfer to Georgia Military Academy then hope to transfer after a season to a bigger program (this from Greg Auman).
Rated the 95th best quarterback by Scout.com coming out of high school (3-star recruit), Gunsby seemed to be strong, powerful quarterback that could have been a starter down the road. This is a blow to the depth of the USF quarterback position, although the Bulls got by this Spring with Daniels, Eveld, and the fast rising freshman Matt Floyd. Gunsby seemed to be a top guy last season and many fans wanted him to get on the field during the course of the season, but now it appears we won't get that chance. We wish him luck at this new school.
Not liking this loss. He definitely had some work to do, but had great touch on the ball and his size was a definite plus.
ReplyDeleteThat and you never like to lose depth at QB. Was really looking forward to seeing what he could do int he future.
He must not have liked the challenge looming with Eveld and Floyd. I think we're in a good place. We still have 3 QB's. Floyd will RS as long as we don't get injury plagued (hopefully we don't *knock n wood*) and we're in a great spot for 2013.
ReplyDeleteLosing depth hurts, there is no question about that and it seems that Gunsby was the type of quarterback Holtz like (sort of the reason he pulled an offer from Carnes before and recruited Gunsby, but just speculation on my part). The Bulls should be good with 3 Qbs and it opens the door scholarship wise for Dunkley and Blakely, maybe. Or simply we get another signal caller for 2012 class.
