The ladies travel to Louisville Kentucky in the first round of the Big East softball tournament. After a disappointing finish to the season with the forfeit to DePaul, the ladies, 33-20 (13-5) enter the tournament as the 4th seed and will take on host Louisville tonight at 6:30.
Coach Ken Eriksen won't be in the dugout for the first game as he serves a one game suspension for his actions from the DePaul game.
The ladies had a huge season and are looking to keep it going and get a few wins here as they hope for an NCAA Tournament invite. Gina Kafalas (batting .361), Courtney Goff (.279 batting average), pitcher Lindsey Richardson (10-6 on the year) were all named 3rd team All Big East for their great performance this season. Sara Nevins, 15-7 on the season with an ERA of 1.75 and holding opponents to a batting average of just .199 was named first team All Big East performer last night. The Bulls will also need big time performances from Janine Richardson who is hitting .355 on the season, Kourtney Salvarola who is hitting .296 with 6 homeruns and 43 RBI on the season, and from Ashli Goff who is hitting .357 as well.
The ladies face a tough Louisville team that is playing at home and has a record of 34-17 (9-7) and will look to get the early upset over the Bulls. The Bulls offense was held in check vs. DePaul and will have to get going early, getting runners on base. Sara Nevins has been dominate in nearly every game and will have to be at her best tonight as she steps in the circle looking to continue the Bulls season. The winner of this game will face the winner of the Notre Dame vs. Providence matchup.
