I attended last night's game, hoping the momentum would carry over from the sweep of St. John's, yet, the pitching once again failed the Bulls and the offense got just a few runs of production.
Zach Pietrzyk started the game for USF, but only lasted 3 innings, giving up 8 hits and 4 runs, recording just 1 strike out. He gets the loss (3-2), but the game really fell apart when Trey Dahl came in for his "relief appearance." Dahl lasted just 1 innings, giving up 4 hits, 5, runs and the team committed 3 errors as well (Dahl had 1 error and another drop as well).
The offense had a sluggish night. Jonathan Koscso was 2 for 3 and was honored for being accepted into the graduate med program at USF, so congrats to Dr. Koscso. Sam Mende was 2 for 4. Daniel Rockhold was 2 for 3 with an RBI and great play behind the plate to get several UCF baserunners in run down situations.
The Bulls are now 22-22 (11-7) on the year and the only real chance for them to reach the NCAA Tournament is a win in the Big East tournament and after what I saw first hand last night and how the USF pitching, aside from Fontanez struggles, it is a long shot. The Bulls now travel to take on UCONN Saturday at 6 PM, Sunday at 1 PM, and Monday at 1 PM. This is another key Big East matchup where USF can either win key conference games, improve their records and get ready for Clearwater, so simply fall flat, lose 2 out of 3 and start planning their summer vacations early. Ugly game, but at least the stadium looks great.
How was the attendance last night?
ReplyDeleteIt was reported around 1300, it was a decent crowd, sparse in the student section, but with finals week, it is to be expected. There were plenty of seats though.
