Jonathan Koscso led off the game with a double, but that was the only highlight for the Bulls as UCONN completed the sweep. (Picture:www.gousfbulls.com) |
The Bulls failed to get a win against UCONN and were swept yesterday afternoon, falling 2 to 0 to the Huskies and slipping into a tie for 5th place in the Big East.
Kyle Eastham got the start, going just 4 innings, allowing 4 hits, 2 runs, striking out 1, and walking 4. He is now 3-5 on the season. Jimmy Moran and Kevin Quackenbush worked perfect 8 and 9th innings for the Bulls, but the offense was once again no where to be found.
Jonathan Koscso was 1 for 4 with a leadoff double, but no one could get on base and move runners around. Todd Brazeal, the "power" bat of the Bulls offense, was just 1 for 4 with 3 strikeouts, that is not going to get the job done against anyone, especially the best team in the conference.
The Bulls are now 22-25 (11-10) and sit in a tie at 5th place with Cincinnati and Louisville and just 1 game above Seton Hall for the 8th spot in the conference. Only the top 8 teams go to the Big East tournament, the only hope the Bulls have to get to the NCAA Tournament, but that is probably not going to happen, time for a reality check.
The Bulls don't play until this weekend when they travel to Notre Dame who sits (9-10) in the conference and just a .5 game out of 8th place, so the stakes will be raised for this series. The Bulls will have to figure out what is wrong with the bats, regroup, and try to prepare for a battle in South Bend.
