Jerome Murphy appears to be done for the season (Picture:www.yahoo.com) |
We continue to take a look at some of the Bulls who were recently drafted by the NFL and look to catch up on the impact the are making in the league (aren't we all glad the NFL is back on schedule?)
This time we take a look at cornerback Jerome Murphy and how his career is going with the St. Louis Rams. The 3rd-round pick in the 2010 draft had a solid first season with the Rams, but it appears his 2011 season is already over. [keep reading]
Murphy, the 6-1 185-pound corner, was a third round draft choice by the St. Louis Rams as they begin to rebuild (I miss the greatest show on turf). Murphy had a solid season with the Rams in his first year. He played in 14 games (breaking the rookie in slowly). He finished the season with 25 tackles, 5 assists, and intercepted one pass as well.
Seeing Murphy excel at the NFL level should not come as a surprise to USF fans that watched him over his years with the Bulls. He played in 51 games, starting 25 of them. Murphy finished his career with 148 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, .5 sack, intercepted 4 passes, broke up 8 more passes, forced 2 fumbles and recovered both of them. Murphy played a lot of nickel in his career at USF, but is learning and getting better at the one on one matchups at the next level.
Sadly, news came out last Friday that Murphy fractured his ankle during practice and will undergo surgery to repair it. The coaches are pretty much saying he is out for the season, but there have been stranger things to happen. He will at least be at full strength next season as he continues his NFL career.
Get well soon Murphy and get back to intercepting passes for the Rams.
