USF fan fest was a success and even the new uniforms were revealed (Picture: www.gousfbulls.com) |
Well if you made it to the Fan Fest yesterday I am sure you were just like Mike and I, dodging rain and not winning to well.
The Fan Fest started well for the Bulls, parking lot opening at 3 pm and the cars rolling in and waiting to enter while us (the Bull Rush team) got to tailgate for a short time before the rain chased us inside.
Personally, I entered the stadium, stepping onto the field for just the second time in my life, and saw multiple lines to step into and get signatures. The rain started to role in, so ducking into the linebackers tent, I was able to meeting Mike Lanaris, Sam Barrington, and even Edsel Caprice who was sitting there. But once the rain rolled into the field, everyone was advised to make their way into the tunnels of the stadium or risk being a lightning rod.
The rain came down all afternoon and put a bit of a damper on the entire fan fest, but kudos to the players and staff for being fantastic, hanging around and mingling around with the fans that made the trip and stayed through the mini-hurricane.
Personally, while I am not the biggest person to run and get autographs, I couldn't help it when walking by players I recongized. Seeing Bobby Eveld, Andreas Shields, Marcus Shaw, Darrell Scott, Kayvon Webster (still rooting for his Red Sox I am sad to report), Jerrell Young, Mark Joyce (Deland all the way), A.J. Love, Demetris Murray, and so many others, it was exciting and great to shake their hands and have a little football small talk.
We waited in a line that formed to meet Coach Holtz and while the football players packed up around 6:30 PM, we waited it out in line to meet the man himself. Holtz waited to sign for everyone, take pictures and talk for a few minutes, even after he could have left, showing the type of person he was. He commended us for waiting and appreciated our support while we wished him the best of luck for the season. I personally told him I couldn't wait for the victory in two weeks. He simply winked at me and said he couldn't wait either.
So I hope everyone who went to Fan Fest had a great time, even though the rain got everyone off the field, it was a fun time and can't wait for this season to get started already. (Note we will have more on the new uniforms later today).
