Notes From Saturday's Scrimmage

The Bulls continue to work through minor injuries as they prepare for Notre Dame.
Before the Fan Fest and all of the rain that washed out Raymond James and sent the fans (us included) into the tunnels of the stadium, the Bulls had a full scrimmage that was held privately from media and Holtz didn't come away too happy with the performance of the team.

The players made some sharp plays (according to Greg Auman and Adam Adkins) but there were some issues with the performances not really with the starters, but with the depth chart players.

Holtz mentioned he was not too excited with Bobby Eveld and Matt Floyd. He stated they were not pushing each other, including Daniels, for the starting role and the roster spots. Holtz wants the players to work extremely hard and will put the best players on the field, but he didn't see the fight in them during this practice, but they will get it together and push each other more than ever if he is not this happy.

Nagging injuries continue to slow the depth chart as well for Holtz and staff. With so many young and key players missing time, it makes it hard to evaluate them and get a depth chart put together for the first game.

Spencer Boyd tweaked his knee and will miss 4 to 5 days as he recovers. Ernie Tabuteau pushed through practice even while dealing with back spams that have held him out for several days in Vero and continue to slow him down in Tampa. Tabuteau and Boyd are battling for the 3rd corner role so it should be interesting to see who will win out for the job.

John McGhin, Tony Kibler (shoulder), Luke Sager, George Baker (groin), Kenneth Durden, Tye Turner, and Thor Jozwiak missed the scrimmage as they all deal with small injuries that take away time from the field and make the evaluation process for the players a bit harder for the staff.

The talk about the updated fall roster being released tonight didn't happen and there is not a word from Holtz or anyone on one an official fall depth chart will be released. The Bulls still have two weeks to get it together, but the chart could come out as early as Monday, so keep checking the site for the latest.
