Coach Heath will have to wait a bit longer to add a big center to his roster. |
From Adam Adkins - 7-3 center Jordan Omogbehin, the big man from Nigeria is headed to Faith Baptist, a prep school in Brandon, Florida (close to my home actually).
There had been talk about Omogbehin not being eligible for USF due to entrance exam scores and not meeting NCAA standards for admission. Omogbehin did take 12 hours of summer credits and USF had hoped the NCAA would allow him to enroll, but now it appears that he will have to wait a semester before coming onto campus for Coach Heath and the program.
So what does this mean for Heath and the program? It isn't the end of the world to start with (that happens during Big East play). Omogbehin is a big, talented player, but raw and needs time to progress under Heath and the depth chart ahead of him, including Augustus Gilchrist, Ron Anderson Jr., and incoming transfer Andre Jackson, his playing time would have been limited to start with.
So what will become or Omogbehin? After a semester at Faith Baptist, making sure he attends classes and the NCAA can get the test scores sorted out (it can't be that hard right?) he will be able to enroll for the Spring semester and then should be able to redshirt for his freshman season. This will allow him to get onto the court, practice, be in the weight room with teammates and trainers, and learn from sitting for the season. After that, he will have four years to terrorize the Big East with his insane 7-3 frame and ability to control the paint. We hope to see him soon in a USF jersey.
