Coach Holtz mentioned that wide receiver Evan Landi continues to impress him early this season. |
Here are a few notes on a Friday night for the Bulls as they wrap-up day two of practices. They will get a light practice in tomorrow before they head to Vero Beach for 12 days.
The practices are being divided into two parts. The senior and veteran players playing in the first part of day. This allows the coaches and players to move faster because of the experience with the system and coaches, making practice more efficient and more is accomplished. The second part, which happened tonight, was geared for the freshman and younger players and was going to move at a much slower pace to help teach the players everything from where to line up to how to play their roles even better.
Coach Holtz and staff are using a higher tempo pace to the offense as well. Not only does it help get the players conditioned, but it will help them prepare for the up-tempo teams they will face this season such as ND, WVU, and Pitt. The pace should help the offense get in gear more and get the defense prepared.
Holtz was impressed early by Evan Landi and his physical ability. He also liked what JaQuez Jenkins was doing on the field early as well.
He also stated he was glad to have Love and Griffin back, adding it creates great depth to the position, more competition and great experience at the position, which should help open up the offense just a bit more.
A.J. Love (thanks to the great work of Greg Auman and other reporters to get sound bites, go to www.gousfbulls.com for the full media clips as well). Love is excited to be back on the field, adding he feels he has something to prove this season and feels he needs to show something in order to win the starting role and not simply be handed the job back after sitting out a season. He is ready to go and thanks Golden the strength and conditioning coach for getting him and the team ready.
Defensive coordinator Mark Snyder stated that Kayvon Webster and JaQuez Jenkins were impressing early, but was not ready to start the evaluation process until the players got in shells and started hitting (football shape and being fit are two different things). He also stated the up-tempo is great and will get the team ready for the long season ahead.
That is all for today in the notes, plenty more coming this weekend as the Bulls head to Vero Beach and continue the Fall camp.
