Coach Jose Fernandez won't be happy about this. |
Wait? A Division 1 program that plays in the best basketball conference in America is going to be playing in a gym where freshman fresh out of class come to play? From the sound of the talks, this is the case. The Bulls will play other games on the road, some at UT (south Tampa) or at the St. Pete Forum as part of double headers with the men's team. Yet, this still leaves quite a few games that would be at the Sun Dome and it seems the ladies are going to be at the gym.
Now we all know why the team, along with the volleyball team and men's basketball team are homeless this season. The Sun Dome is still undergoing its rennovations and won't be ready for the start of the season. The Muma Center, which is a first class training facility, does not have bleachers or they would simply play home games there.
The women's team actually played in the Upper Gym and since then it has been redone and is a half-way decent facility, but to put a team, a Division1 program from a BCS conference in the Recreation center gym is insulting. I am not sure how Fernandez feels about this and I am sure the incoming teams (most likely just a handful) will be laughing a little bit at this set up.
Let's hope they just win, put aside the bad home field advantage during this lost season (yeah, we are labeling it that at this point) and are able to look towards the bright future.
