Tomorrow is finally game day for USF! While the first team offense and defense are going to get the necessary snaps they need to get the win, a lot of the second team players are going to get mixed in and have a chance to produce early and often.
So the 5 players to watch in this game has a second team theme to it. Holtz was not happy with the second team unit and will need them to be more productive and get more playing time out there.
Running back Marcus Shaw - Shaw had a bad game against Ball State, rushing 7 times for negative three yards, being pushed back and not getting great carries. I still stand by the statement that Shaw is a game changer for the Bulls rushing attack. He is a speedy runner, showing great footwork. I look for him to get on the field in his game and rack up a few solid carries.
Wide receiver Victor Marc - Marc hauled in several passes last week, chewing up the yards and getting his first touchdown. With Joel Miller sitting out with a concussion, the opportunity to get playing time at slot receiver is even great and the talented Marc will get more chances to impress and show his ability to catch the ball.
Linebacker Reshard Cliett - Cliett has been getting some playing time as a reserve, but with the second team getting more snaps in this game, I would expect to see him get onto the field more in this game. Cliett could use the experience at strong side so when he is needed later in the year, he will be ready to go.
Cornerback Spencer Boyd - Boyd made a big play last week on special teams and seems to be healthy after a slight knee injury towards the end of camp. It would be good to see him come onto the field and get some playing time. The Bulls have been worried about the depth at corner and getting Boyd on the field would help the depth and ability in the secondary.
Quarterback Bobby Eveld - Eveld looked rusty last week and admitted he was off a bit. Going 3 for 11 against Ball State was not good and Holtz wants to see him and the second unit execute the offense better. Eveld could get a lot of playing time in this game if USF does pull ahead like they should, so he will have his chance to get back out there are get something going.
