Key Match-ups for USF vs. UTEP

Here are some of the key match ups to watch tomorrow night as the Bulls take on the Miners in a very important game before the start of the Big East schedule.

USF run game vs. Defensive front of UTEP

UTEP runs the 4-3 defense and has solid size up the middle, but smaller, fast speed rushers off the edge.  The offensive line has done a solid job so far and has to continue to open the lanes for Scott and others to get down the field and keep drives alive

Chaz Hine vs. UTEP nose tackle Jamie Fehoko

Hine has done a great job, along with the rest of the offensive line, allowing just 3 sacks this season.  Facing Fehoko and the defensive line of the Miners will be a key battle to watch as they protect Daniels and give him the time he needs to find the open receivers down the field.

Sterling Griffin vs. UTEP Cornerback Drew Thomas

Griffin leads the team in receiving yards and found the end zone for the first time this season last week.  He is one of the best receivers USF has and facing off against the Miner secondary, matched up with Thomas, he will have to continue to play at a high level and get down the field for big gains.

UTEP quarterbacks vs. USF pass rush

The Miners haven't named a starting quarterback yet, but they will find the best option.  Forte, Davis, and Giddins continue to get a great pass rush while Watson, Sager and others attack from the center.  If the defensive line can continue to pressure and stop the Miner quarterbacks, they can get the ball back quickly.

UTEP wide receiver Mike Edwards vs. Kayvon Webster

Edwards is a big target for the Miners and with Washington out, Webster becomes the go-to defensive back in the secondary.  He will have to shut down the passing attack and will need to come up with a few interceptions or pass break ups to keep the Miner offense (which likes to throw) in check.
