USF Football Updates

From Greg Auman - Coach Holtz had his weekly press conference as the team prepares for Pitt on the short week. The team will have a practice tonight under the lights of the new practice field at 10 PM. The Bulls usually use Monday as an off day, but are preparing due to the game so early in the week. Holtz stated that the coaches have been preparing since last week for Pitt, so they are ahead of schedule and will have the team ready for the big game on ESPN.

Holtz praised the offensive line for their hard work and stated they are the reason the offense continues to produce and move the ball. They will have to keep it going on Thursday when they face a fast 3-4 defensive scheme that likes to shut the run down but does struggle against the pass (taking notes Daniels?)

Holtz stated that it is very unlikely that Terrence Mitchell, released yesterday after suffering a concussion against UTEP, will play on Thursday night. He said that Victor Marc, Andre Davis, Evan Landi, or even Stephen Bravo-Brown could get a look at punt returns.

Holtz stated that Marc will continue to get more playing time due to his huge performance against UTEP, both receiving and running the ball.

Holtz said that the issues on specials could be blamed more on the coaches but did state that more starters would be on coverage going forward to help sure up the field position issue the Bulls continue to face.

He also stated that Quenton Washington and JaQuez Jenkins should be ready to go for the game on Thursday night. Ernie Tabuteau continues to be the only player that is really questionable for the game at this stage due to his lingering back issues.
