| Who are the UTEP Miners? |
UTEP, member of Conference USA, enters the game with a record at 2-1 (0-1). Last week, they rallied to beat New Mexico State 16 to 10. The Miners had to go to overtime to beat Stony Brook in week one (31 to 24 win) and were beaten by SMU 28 to 17 as well on the season.
UTEP is no offensive monster, so the defense should be able to keep any attack they have in check. The Miners average 21.3 points per game while they hold their opponents to 20.7 points per game (have to see what our offense does in this game). USF hung 70 points last week and 37 the week before, so it will be a tough task to slow the Bulls down here.
The Miners have been struggling big time in the rushing game, averaging just 83.7 yards per game, so the USF defense will be able to stop the running attack the Miner will try to put together (load the box). Their defense allows 131 yards rushing per game so the Bulls, especially Scott coming off of a huge game, should get a lot of running room in this game. The Miners average 255 yards passing per game, so the pass defense will have to lock it down like they did in the last game. Their defense allows just 221.7 yards per game, so Daniels coming off of two straight 300 yard plus passing games will try to find his fast receivers.
The Miners have outscored their opponents 28 to 17 in the 3rd quarter, so they come out of the break fast and try to get the momentum back against their opponents. The Bulls will have to remain focused from start to stop of the game and not allow them to get an edge and have the Bulls trailing in this game.
The Bulls should win the game. The offense seems to be hitting all of its stride right now, both passing and rushing while the defense is locking people down and getting the ball back for Daniels and all of the weapons. If the Bulls focus, don't look ahead at the Big East schedule, and execute this game, they should come away with another big win.
