Five Scariest USF Players of all Time

It's Halloween and time to have a little fun after a long month (glad to put October behind us). Over the years, a lot of players have suited up for the Bulls and some have made long lasting impressions because of their actions. We are going to look at 5 of the scariest players from the past few seasons and see what kind of fear they put into their opponents. We will also look at a few players that put fear into the fans.

5. Matt Grothe - Grothe scared defenses for years when he played at USF. After taking over for Pat Julmiste, Grothe ran through and around defense, showing his athletic ability and making life hard for opponents. He gave defense coordinators all sort of nightmares.

4. Dominique Jones - USF basketball isn't that good, but Jones is. Jones put the team on his back two years ago, giving USF big upset wins such as the win over Georgetown and got them a 20-win season (NIT birth as well). Now he is in the NBA and already has a championship ring and still haunts Big East teams.

3. Jessica Dickson - Dickson was one of the best players in USF basketball history. Consistently averaging double digits a night, draining three-point shots, and lead the Bulls to the NCAA tournament. She will be remembered for years as one of the best players to ever suit up for USF.

2. Dom Dwyer - A new nightmare goalkeepers have to worry about. Dwyer has 16 goals on the season, his first season as a Bull. He continues to burn the nets and leave opposing goalkeepers in fear of when he comes into the box. They have a lot more games left and expect him to cause a few more nightmares.

1. George Selvie - Number 95, the number that many quarterbacks fear and still look underneath their bed for at night. Selvie became a household name in his junior season, racking up tons of tackles for losses and sacks. It seemed every play, Selvie was in the backfield chasing someone down.

While those names are scary, USF has also had some frightening players that continue to haunt that fans. Let's see some of the scariest players that haunt the Bulls fans (note, this is for fun, not trying to be mean to these players)

5. Chris Capko - A name that still sends chills down the spines of basketball fans. Capko was the starting point guard under Robert McCullum (another bad name there) and for years, he haunted USF fans with his inability to run the offense and lack of shooting. He would constantly drive the paint and stop without a shot. His face, behind the protective mask, still haunts those who remember him.

4. Jim Leavitt - With the crazy hair, head butting, and hoarse voice by half time, Leavitt is a frightening player. He founded the football program, but angered fans by not taking the team to the next level. Now he is in the NFL, but fans will always remember the craziness that was Leavitt.

3. Delbert Alvarado - A name that still scares and sickens fans, Alvarado will be remembered for his terrible kicking performances when the team needed him the most. Who remembers the Auburn game? It was like watching a bad horror film, miss after miss, it would just not end.

2. Stan Heath's job - Forget the haunted houses, there is nothing scarier than being the head coach of that program. Heath must deal with the most elite programs in the country every year and every year finds his team at the bottom of the rankings. While he is improving, the road ahead is a frightening one. He is getting better, but faces scary odds.

1. Anthony Crater - Probably the scariest name we can find, Crater. Crater was player that would never take a shot, no matter how much the fans called for it, he would try to assist everyone, even when no one was open. He had the game winning shot vs. Villanova, but that could not make up for the entire season of no scoring and bad turnovers. He is gone now, but the pint guard position will be haunted for years.
