Griffin and Dixon Out for the Season

Bad news for USF football fans this morning. Coach Holtz was on the Dan Sileo radio show this morning and stated that sophomore wide receiver Sterling Griffin will miss 6-8 weeks with a fracture in his right ankle, the same ankle he injured in 2010. He suffered the injury against Cincinnati, but there were hopes it would only be a sprain. However, he did break a bone and now will probably miss the rest of the season.

This is a devastating blow to the depth chart for the Bulls. A.J. Love has been slowed with a few injuries and Terrence Mitchell is still recovering from his concussion, leaving the Bulls young at the wide receiver spot. Ruben Gonzalez, Andre Davis, and Deonte Welch among others will have to step up in the remaining weeks to help Daniels. We hope Griffin recovers quickly.

The other news that is coming out today is the injury to cornerback Ricardo Dixon. Holtz stated he has suffered an ACL injury and is out for the season. Dixon has made 2 tackles this season and one interception. Losing him hurts the cornerback depth now and if there is another injury, the Bulls will have to bring in inexperienced players into the secondary.

This is really bad news for the players and the team. Dixon's injury is bad, but losing Griffin is a bigger blow to the team at this point. The offense will have to adjust if they want to get another win and get a bowl bid to end the season.
