There will be plenty of key-matchups in this game on Saturday between the Canes and Bulls, but here a few that will be the biggest. Let's take a look at where the key battles will be on the field.
Offensive line vs. Miami front 7
The Bulls love to run the ball and the offensive line is doing their job to open the lanes for Scott, Daniels, and Murray. The Canes front 7 will try to crowd the box and force Daniels to throw and bottle up Scott/Murray. The offensive line will have to get a great push and protect Daniels if the offense is going to get anything going in the game.
Deonte Welch vs. defensive back JoJo Nicholas
Welch has become the primary target for Daniels with Griffin out (aside from Marc). Nicholas is one of the top corners in the Miami secondary and brings a wealth of experience to the field. The redshirt freshman will have his work cut out for him in this game as he battles in his routes and for the ball.
Demetris Murray vs. Linebacker Sean Spence
Whether Murray or Scott get the majority of the carries in this game, they will have to deal with Spence, the hard hitting linebacker of the Canes. Spence tackles well and is very physical at the point of attack. Scott, a north and south runner, will have to lower his shoulder against him. Murray will have to use his speed and vision because Spence is just a fast.
Ryne Giddins vs. quarterback Jacory Harris
Giddins has come to life recently in the pass rush, getting pressure and sacks on the quarterback. Harris is a skinny quarterback that can escape pressure and make throws down the field. Giddins will have to pressure him and either get sacks or force him into bad throws. He will have a hard time getting around the big offensive line of Miami.
Kayvon Webster vs. Wide receiver Tommy Streeter
Street is an NFL caliber wide receiver that has a large frame and surprising speed. Webster (or Washington) will have to be physical with him at the line, not allowing a free break down the field. When passes come him his way, they will have to break them up or take him down before he can turn up field and get more yardage.
