From Greg Auman - With football and basketball in the air, why not a little baseball news. Auman reported tonight that AD Doug Woolard has extended USF baseball coach Lelo Prado for three more years, till 2014.
Here are the numbers on the contract from Auman's report: Prado's compensation will remain the same as it was for the 2010-11 season, with a base salary of $99,679, plus $32,500 from USF's contracts with Louisville Slugger and Under Armour for a total compensation of $132,500 per year. The contract allows both sides to end the contract early, with USF paying Prado $50,000 per year if his contract is terminated early; Prado must pay $50,000 if he leaves before July 2012, with that buyout dropping to $25,000 until July 2013 and to zero in the final year of the contract.
Prado has a career record of 150-139, including two straight losing seasons. The Bulls went 25-29 last season, missing the Big East tournament and angering fans in the process. The pressure is on Prado to succeed with his new field and facilities plus the rich recruiting grounds around the city and state. Prado will rely on Barbosa and others to return healthy this season in order to turn the program around and start to live up to the expectations of the team and the fans.
