Fitzpatrick Stepping Up So Far for USF

The Bulls are off to a solid start this season with a 7-5 record as they prepare for Big East play.  While the record is solid, the way the Bulls have gotten to this record has been a challenge.  With injuries, suspensions, and a young roster, Coach Heath has been forced to juggle his starting lineup multiple times.  One player that continues to be a constant for Heath is junior forward Toarlyn Fitzpatrick (6-8 243-pounds).

Fitzpatrick has started 6 games this season, coming off the bench in others and getting a lot of minutes.  He has responded, averaging 9.6 points a game while shooting 48% from the field and 42% from 3-point range, showing the shooting touch of the big man.

He is also averaging 6.9 rebounds per game and has added 12 blocks and 7 steals on defensive end as well.

Fitpatrick has stepped up his play this season.  Last year, he played the role of bench player, averaging just around 3.4 points per game.  This season, through opportunities and great play, he has gotten more playing time and continues to shine in the paint and from the 3-point line on occasion.

As the Bulls get closer to Big East play, they will have to rely on the size of the front court to control the boards in conference play.  USF has a history of struggling in conference, but has a talented roster that could make some noise and one of the key players will be Fitzpatrick.  He has to continue to put up points and rebound well, adding on defense in the process.  If he is able to continue his production, the Bulls will be a team to contend with this season.
