USF Lands Two JUCO DBs

Coach Rick Smith got commitments from two new cornerbacks.
The USF Bulls have been hitting the JUCO ranks hard in recruiting recently, landing Chandlor Mathews-York, Lawrence Martin, and Tevin Mims in the last few days.  This weekend, the Bulls added two more JUCO commits, this time, both at the defensive back position (news was broken by Bulls 247, they have been on top of everything in the recruiting world, we recommend you check them out).

The first is Summit Mississippi Community College cornerback Fidel Montgomery.  The 6-0 183-pound defensive back picked the Bulls after taking a visit and picking USF over other teams like Mississippi State and Jacksonville State.  Adding a JUCO corner will help the depth for the USF secondary that was depleted at the end of the season with injuries and graduation.  He will have a chance to step in and get playing time.

The other commit comes from a New Mexico State commit that the Bulls were able to flip.  Josh Brown, the 6-1 190-pound defensive back out of Arizona Western Community College (rated a two-star prospect according to Rivals.com) has joined the Bulls after formerly committing to USF.  Brown is another solid corner with great size and tremendous speed (runs the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds) giving USF another experienced defensive back that can step in and take over and help rotate in with the younger players.

This has been a solid weekend for the Bulls in the recruiting trail (right before the quiet period).  The Bulls had big concerns in the secondary and even with the talented freshmen coming in with the 2012 class and on the roster, they lacked experience.  The two JUCO commits will help add experience and more depth for the Bulls secondary that was depleted at the end of the season.
