USF WBB Struggling on Offense

The USF ladies, after dropping their game yesterday to Dayton, find themselves at 7-6 with one more game today before they face the Big East portion of the schedule. The offense has struggled so far this season, especially with field goal percentage. The Bulls are going forward without their top scorer from last year, Andrea Smith (knee), but the production from the other players has to get better.

USF is averaging 66.8 points per game, much more than they did last year with Smith in the lineup. Last year they averaged just 60.4 points per game, showing the balance the Bulls have this season with Rowe and McDonald in the paint and a healthy Wynne running the show. But despite the improved number, the Bulls are shooting just 37% from the field and just 28% from 3-point range. For a team that likes to run the court and fire away, these numbers have to improve. USF shot 36% from the floor last year, but also shot 30% from 3-point range, so the numbers are slightly on pace for last year, but still not good.

Another issue the team is facing right now is the number of turnovers per game. The Bulls are averaging 18.8 turnovers a game compared to 14.1 assists per game. The Bulls force a lot of turnovers against the opponent, but they tend to repay the favor at the other end. Last year, they turned it over 15.2 times per game, so the ratio has gotten worse this season and needs improvement before conference play begins. If USF wants to improve on their 12-19 mark from last season, it has to begin today with Saint Peters (game starts at 5PM)
