What Returns for USF in 2012: Running Backs

The USF running game saw newcomer Darrell Scott take over in the backfield, leading the team with over 800 yards. While Daniels continued to run around, the running backs had more chances and will continue to get a lot of the work load in 2012. Let's see who is returning for 2012 in the USF backfield.

Darrell Scott would be the top running back if he does return and not head to the NFL (not real sure where he might go at this point). Scott was a tough runner for USF, but battled injuries during the season and did not score a touchdown against a BCS opponent all season either (according to GA). If he does return, he will help anchor the backfield with his tough running style. Senior Demetris Murray will also return for his senior season, giving USF a solid senior runner that has nice speed and is also a threat to catch the ball out of the backfield.

After Murray and Scott, the Bulls are thin on experience. Marcus Shaw has the speed, but hardly got on the field and was suspended for one game. Hopefully he can get out there and show his skill. Bradley Battles never saw the field, but does return for USF. Freshman Willie Davis is also in the mix, although did not play in 2011 (true freshman).

At fullback, a position of concern, Chris Breit seems to be the starter to return for USF. Tye Turner has the size to be in the backfield, but didn't play in 2011. Justin Wilcox and Spencer Cavalieri also return as well.

If Scott leaves for the NFL, the Bulls will be real thin at running back. Murray has had two nice seasons, but there is not much experience behind him. Shaw seems to have the speed, but can't get on the field and the rest of the running backs are all young, leaving some question marks heading into the 2012 season.
