What Returns for USF in 2012: Quarterbacks

The Bulls will be solid at quarterback for the 2012 season. While the coaching staff works on recruiting for the future, the 2012 season is set with everyone coming back and looking to do more on offense and get more productive on each series. Here is what is coming back for USF.

B.J. Daniels will be entering his senior season with USF, his third season under Todd Fitch as well. Daniels had a career season, both throwing and running the ball. He cut down on the mistakes, protecting the ball and got more comfortable with the offense in his second season. There aren't many schools that have a senior starter and USF is lucky enough to have him back under center.

Bobby Eveld returns for his sophomore season, bringing a solid back-up role to the quarterback position in case Daniels goes down with an injury (had to make one start in 2011). Freshman Matt Floyd impressed during last spring and will be competing with Eveld for the back-up spot. Holtz was going to burn his redshirt if he needed Floyd to play, so the coaches are very high on him. Ryan Eppes and Baylin Trujillo are also on the roster and will be working to help the practice squads and get the defenses ready for the season.

Overall, having a senior at quarterback is huge for USF, especially a talented athlete like Daniels. Eveld and Floyd have to come through and show they can play if needed to make the position even stronger.

  1. I'm ready for a new qb. Daniels hasn't shown much progress and we had fewer wins than last year with an easier schedule.

  2. I understand your reasoning. He put up great numbers against weak opponents and struggled vs. BCS teams. He is in his senior season and unless he has a huge season, Holtz really needs to start getting another arm, either Eveld or Floyd (might recruit someone too) to takeover the job and start a new chapter.
