After an action packed first day, the USF Bulls (2-0) will take on just one opponent in the second day of USF tournament. After facing Maine and Florida Gulf Coast, the ladies will take on Long Island today. USF was scheduled to face Illinois State in the afternoon, but due to weather and rescheduling, they will face them on February 26th at 2:45PM in Clearwater. So let's take a look at what Long Island brings to the field.
*Note, Long Island is concluding their game from last night against Florida, after, they face FGCU and then will face USF. The stats below reflect their first game efforts against Illinois state and last season.
Long Island is (0-1) on the season after going 17-34 last season. Maine is led by junior catcher Emily Kakuska (5-5) who hit .316 last season with 5 home runs and had 22 RBIs (walked 15 times and struck out 19 times). She had one hit in the 0 to 9 loss to Illinois State the other day. Sophomore outfielder Madison Zymkowitz (5-5) hit .253 last season with 1 home run and drove in 14 runs.
Senior 2nd baseman/3rd baseman Sterling Hoham (5-8) hit .227 last season with 7 doubles, 1 home run, and drove in 8 runs. Junior 3rd baseman Megan Sheaf (5-7) hit .225 with 3 home runs and 13 RBIs last season. Senior RHP Sarah Reynolds (6-0) went 8-19 last season, working 163.2 innings, allowing 201 hits, walking 58 and striking out 101 while allowing opponents to hit .293 batting average. Sheaf is also one of their top pitchers. She went 6-11 last season with a 4.27 ERA after working 123 innings allowing 143 hits, 35 walks, and struck out 85. The Bulls need to come out strong in this first game. They have more pitching and offensive firepower, so they should get the solid win before facing the strong Illinois State team at 4PM (game could start later due to the start time and time for the game).
With only one game on the schedule today, the ladies can focus and come out strong in this game and hopefully take of business.
