The USF ladies, facing a tough test at home, were able to control the ball and beat Villanova 55 to 48. USF improves to 13-13 (5-7) on the year with the huge win, slowing down the best 3-point shooting team in the Big East.
Tahira Johnson had 7 points and 7 rebounds, anchoring the team without the efforts of Jasmine Wynne who missed her second straight game with a concussion. Tiffany Conner had 4 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals. Sasha Bernard had 5 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals on the day, playing the role of point guard for USF. Andrell Smith had 22 points (season high) and 6 rebounds to lead the scoring attack. Inga Orekhova had 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 blocks on the night. Kaneisha Saunders had 4 points and 5 rebounds of the bench, Caitlin Rowe had 4 points as well.
This was a huge win for the lady Bulls. They had struggled for a bit, but a big win like this could give them some momentum down the stretch as they get ready for the Big East tournament and get through without start Jasmine Wynne. The ladies will take on Marquette on Tuesday night (on the road) at 7PM.
