The USF ladies, 13-13 (5-7), got a huge win on Saturday as they held the hot hooting Villanova Wildcats. The Bulls were able to play clutch defense and got enough offense with star guard Jasmine Wynne still out with a concussion. They now face the Marquette Golden Eagles who are 13-11 (4-7) on the season. Marquette is averaging 61 points per game and has a record of 10-4 at home, so the Bulls face a hard game ahead of them as they try to get a few late season wins.
Freshman guard/forward Katherine Plouffe (6-3) is averaging 14.3 points per game, 8.7 rebounds per game, has 14 blocks on the season and leads the team with 53 steals. The Bulls will have to lock her down. Freshman guard Arlesia Morse (5-10) is averaging 10.5 points per game (shooting 30% from 3-point range) and has 23 steals on the season. Sophomore forward Sarina Simmons (6-1) is averaging 9.8 points per game, 7.1 rebounds per game, and has 51 steals as well on the year.
Freshman center Apiew Ojulu (6-3) is averaging 8.7 points per game and 4.7 rebounds per game in the paint. Freshman guard Gabi Minix (5-9) is averaging 4 points per game, 2.3 rebounds per game, and 5.4 assists per game as well. Freshman center Chelsie Butler (6-5) is averaging 5.2 points per game and 3.4 rebounds per game. Freshman guard Katie Young (5-11) is averaging 6.1 points per game and 2.4 rebounds per game.
This is a huge game for the ladies. After losing a few close games, they put together a tremendous effort against Villanova to get back to .500 on the year. They are now facing a critical road game that could make or break the season. They need to win this game, no questions about it.
