Bits from the First Day of Practice

The Bulls took to the field for the first time yesterday in spring practice and there were a few notes to make.

Reserve defensive back Brandon Salinas will not return to the team this season (former walk-on). Alex Mut, the wide receiver who took a grey shirt last year after suffering an ACL tear) was on the field, wearing a knee brace, but moving well.

The Bulls also had a new player in the mix, former Jesuit running back Miles Bennett, who was part of the 2010 Army recruiting class, has joined the team. The 5-11 205-pound running back was a 2-star prospect coming out of high school, running the 40-yard dash in 4.47 seconds and placed 7th in the state 200-meters (from Auman). He will get a chance to show what he can do this season at the running back position that is looking for depth and explosive playmakers.

Holtz also stated that veteran tackle Damien Edwards moved over to guard to give the Bulls more experience on the inside of the line and will battle for that position.

It was just the first day of practice for the players, no pads, but it's fun to see the team on the field for the first time this year as they look to bounce back from the disappointing 2011 season.
