Last Chance for B.J. Daniels this Season

In his last season as a Bull, all eyes are on Daniels to put it all together and lead the Bulls to that elusive Big East title.
Spring football is in the year and as the team begins its first practices of the new year, all eyes are now on senior quarterback B.J. Daniels.  Daniels, the most experienced and arguably talented quarterbacks in the conference returns to a team that is loaded with talent, probably the most weapons he has ever had.  Yet, with all the experience and weapons around him (just look at the receivers this team has) there is still debate among fans about what he can do this season.

Daniels is talented, there is not a real question about that and last season, Daniels had his best statistical season since coming to Tampa.  The 6-0 217-pounder completed 215 out of 365 passes (58.9% completions, all career highs) for 2585 yards, tossing 13 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.  He also ran for 601 yards and scored 6 touchdowns as well.

While the numbers were great, the team struggled at times to be consistent, often failing to score on late drives, turning the ball over late in games, and after a 5-7 season, fans are wanting more consistency from the offense.

It has seemed that after great starts to each season, Daniels has struggled down the stretch, forcing turnovers and being limited with injuries.  Daniels has dealt with hamstring and shoulder injuries in most of his seasons, taking him out of the game and leaving the Bulls looking for someone to step in during the middle of year, often struggling and taking the Bulls out of the Big East race.

USF needs Daniels to stay healthy and put it all together this year, improving on the touchdown numbers, lowering the interception numbers and most importantly, staying on the field and winning games.  This is a huge season for USF as they try to win the Big East before it changes with all the new teams, so Daniels needs to stay on the field to make it all happen.

  1. He does seem to start great, but often falters once the Big East season starts. He's not very good at all under pressure is what it boils down to. The F$U game aside, he hasn't played especially well against any of the better schools on our schedule, and State was actually in a down period at the time ...

  2. I beg to differ. He has elevated the team to many milestone wins in his career thus far (Florida State, Miami, Notre Dame, to name a few). The team as a whole has historcally faltered in the second half of the season regardless of who the QB is. This is a sign of immaturity as a program. They will eventually get past this hump and become a legitimate threat in the BIg East and Division 1 football.

    1. What are you talking about. He had one offensive TD against Notre Dame, he lost against Miami. We only beat Miami that one time Eveld was QB. He has not had many historic wins at all.

Grothe was much more memorable. Kansas, Auburn, West Virginia.
