Power Surge Elevating USF Softball Offense

The Bulls are showing more power at the plate this season.
The USF Bulls are off to their best start in program history, notching a record of 29-5 (3-0) and are coming off of a dominating weekend, sweeping Big East foe Rutgers.  While the pitching has led the way and the defense has come up big for Eriksen and the ladies, it has been the surge in offensive power this season that has helped the Bulls become a complete team and could lead them deeper into the season.

Last season, the Bulls hit a total of 17 home runs and drove in 215 runs on their way to a record of 33-21.  Stephanie Medina led the team in home runs, belting out 8.  Kourtney Salvarola had 7 and Janine Richardson had 3.

This season however, just a little over half way through the year, they have already hit 18 home runs and have driven in 135 runs.  Kenshyra Jackson has 4 home runs, Salvarola has 1 home run, Stephanie Medina has 6, Janine Richardson has 4, Jessica Mouse has one and Ashli Goff has 1, although it was an inside the park variety (still counts of course).  The newcomers like Jackson and Mouse and the veterans like Medina are all having huge seasons, helping to support the pitching staff with runs and getting them out of games after just 5 innings.

If the Bulls want to continue to rack up the wins and get to the postseason, they have to continue to put up the runs and so far, they are answering the call.  With a road trip on Wednesday against the powerful Gators lineup, they will need to bring their bats to help the pitchers
